Doc Scott
Scott McIlroy
Doc Scott is a pioneering British drum & bass DJ, producer, and label owner, widely regarded as one of the genre’s most influential figures.
Emerging from the early UK rave and hardcore scene in the late 1980s, Doc Scott became closely associated with the birth of jungle and drum & bass in the early 1990s.
He released seminal tracks such as “NHS (Disco Mix)” on Reinforced Records in 1991, one of the first tunes to hint at the darker, more futuristic direction the music would take.
A close ally of Goldie, Doc Scott was instrumental in the development of Metalheadz, both as a producer and a resident DJ at the legendary Metalheadz Sunday Sessions at London’s Blue Note club.
His 1996 single “Shadow Boxing” on his own imprint 31 Records remains one of drum & bass’s most iconic and forward-thinking releases, exemplifying the minimal yet heavy style that continues to influence producers today.
Beyond his productions, Doc Scott is known for his immaculate DJ sets, marked by deep selections, flawless mixing, and an ear for fresh sounds.
Through 31 Records, Doc Scott has championed countless emerging artists while maintaining a reputation as a tastemaker and innovator.
Still active and highly respected, he bridges drum & bass’s rich history with its cutting edge, embodying the progression of the culture from its underground roots to its global recognition.
